Antiques Auction

Rahway, NJ – August 2009 — The Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum Association (MDTMA) announced today that their annual Antiques Auction is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The MDTMA is now accepting tax-deductible donations of items 50 plus years old. Local area residents who are cleaning out their attic and would like to donate can find out more by calling the museum at 732-381-0441.
The entire proceeds from the auction will benefit the continued restoration and interpretation of the 210 year old tavern building, an integral part of Rahway’s history. Carol Reminger, MDTMA Trustee and chairperson of the event stated that “This is the perfect way for area residents to clean out the attic of grandma’s collectibles and curiosities, while helping to preserve this local icon and our city’s history”.
Moderated by professional auctioneer Jack Barry, of the Gilded Lilly Antiques in downtown Rahway, the auction will be held at the museum located at 1632 St. Georges Ave., on the corner of Westfield Ave. in Rahway. The MDTMA will be posting “sneak previews” of some of the incoming donations on their website www.merchantsanddrovers.org. Last year’s donated auction items included beautiful ceramics, decorative furniture, artwork, silver, glassware, china, jewelry, toys, tools, and much more covering almost two centuries of style. As in the past, this year’s auction promises to provide antique aficionados, collectors, dealers and simply the curious unique objects and great bargains, while enjoying the fun and excitement of participating and competing for what could be a rare find.
All donations can be dropped off at the museum. Please call the Museum Director, Alex Shipley at: 732-381-0441 to learn how and when. Previews on auction day, September 12th, are from 9 to 10 a.m. and the admission fee for participation is $3 which includes a catalogue of all items. In addition to cash and checks, the MDTMA is also accepting major credit cards for all purchases (VISA and Mastercard).
