The Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum proudly celebrates Black History Month during this month of February. We encourage you to visit the museum to hear about the role that African-Americans played in American taverns during the late 18th and early to mid-19th centuries. We also have a complimentary booklet on African-Americans and their roles in taverns and hotels. The booklet includes information on the jobs performed by slaves during the period in New Jersey, as well as information regarding their treatment, and first-hand accounts by ex-slaves, recorded in the 1930's by the Works Progress Administration.

Interesting piece of Rahway history - nice work on the website. My wife and I will soon be moving to Rahway, and one of these days I hope to get a chance to wander over to the Tavern to check it out. It looks really neat from the outside.
